As a writer of the humorous and weird, I’ve already fallen in love with Rex Ryan. Ryan has become the coaching version of Ochocinco; he writes my stuff for me sometimes.
In case you haven’t heard, Ryan recently shot the bird to a group of MMA fans at a fight in Miami. He got fined $50,000 large by the Jets for it. But I think that sucks.
Putting aside the fact that reports from those in attendance were that the Miami fans he gave the one-finger salute to were unruly; that they were cursing, spitting (Seriously? What are they llamas?), and generally acting like…well, drunken MMA fans, you have to take into account his audience.
He was at an MMA fight! Have you ever been to one of those, and seen those freaks? Better yet, have you ever gone to a sports bar on the night of an MMA pay-per-view? Let’s just say it’s not for the weak of heart. And God forbid, don’t bring you children!
Ryan was only responding in-kind in the language that MMA fans understand. Not only did it probably not faze these out-of-their-mind knuckle draggers, they probably have new found respect for Ryan. Further, they probably never imagined he would have the cajones to bother to respond at all.
Fining him? Really?
That sucks. I say one of his players should have his back, the way he’s had theirs over the season and pick up the ‘bird tab’. I’m sure Mark Sanchez’s signing bonus wouldn’t feel the pinch if he drop 50 large to help out his coach, right?
Come to think of it, I’ve got a better idea. Put Ryan and one of those insane fans in the octagon! That’s a pay-per-view even Dana White couldn’t turn down.
